Maren turned 18 today and is technically an adult. Layla let her know that she can legally buy cigarettes now if she wants, but Maren assured her that she wouldn't be taking advantage of that benefit. She will get to vote next month, though, which is exciting!
Her favorite birthday gift was from Emma and brought back lots of fun memories.

For Maren's eighth birthday, I bought her a Princess of Ireland Barbie. She had beautiful long, red hair, and Maren loved to play with her. She was so happy to have a Barbie who was a fellow Ginger! Unfortunately, Emma loved the Barbie's beautiful crown and wanted her own Barbie to wear one, too. One day when Maren was at school she decided to cut the crown off of her head, but it was harder than she thought and lots of hair came off with the crown. She tried to fix it, but beautiful Princess of Ireland looked like a spiky haired punk rocker when Emma was finished with her. You can imagine the sad drama that played out when Maren got home from school! She has never let Emma forget that she ruined her favorite Barbie and teases her about it on a fairly regular basis, so this year Emma found one on Ebay and bought it for her as a surprise. Maren may be a little old for Barbies, but she loved this one and thought Emma was very sweet to think of such a great gift. I wish I had taken a picture of the original doll after the haircut!

Other than the doll, she mostly got clothes and books. Oh, and her favorite cake...Boston Cream Cake. Happy Birthday, Kiddo!
