I love my job! Here's just one of the reasons why:
A few months ago Senator Crapo decided to tackle the enormous task of holding a town hall meeting in each of the 200 incorporated cities in Idaho so he could discuss the problem of the national debt and hear comments and questions from people across the state. It has been so fun to travel with him as staff and see all of the tiny towns in my region of Idaho-some that I didn't even know existed-and meet great people. I also love to hear my boss discuss issues people are concerned about. He is a good man doing the best he can with the imperfect situations he works in, and I appreciate his efforts. I generally get to the meetings early, set things up, and then have a few minutes to look around the town.
One of the places we went to was Franklin, Idaho. It's the oldest town in Idaho and has a family history museum that people in the surrounding counties have donated to.
There are hundreds of pictures of local people's ancestors, as well as tools, clothes, books, farm equipment, and household items. It's a treasure trove for genealogists with family from Idaho.I took Maren with me for company on one day of the town hall meetings. On the way to Dayton (population 50) we stopped to explore an old cabin.
Floors were missing in some areas, but it was still fascinating to get a peek inside.
I was so tempted to take this miniature roasting pan home and clean it up, but I left it there.
I'm not so good at selfies, but I thought we should document our trip together.
At Clifton's town hall meeting we thought it was pretty funny to see that they have to post a sign stating that people aren't allowed to bring their horses to the city park! Apparently that's been a problem in the past.
After Preston's town hall meeting we made a visit to the Deseret Industries where a scene in Napoleon Dynamite was filmed. Maren found this beauty of a dress, but as soon as we turned our backs on it a lady put it in her shopping cart and bought it!
In Preston we also stopped at Trackside Antiques and found this 60s prom dress. Couldn't resist this beauty!
On the way home we stopped at Red Rock Pass and the site of the Bear River Massacre to look at the view and take a few pictures.
We had lots of fun on my work trip, and I promise, no federal funds were used to pay for my shopping time or purchases!
